Two elderly women trampled to death by elephants in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 25: Two elderly women were trampled to death by elephants in Balasore and Keonjhar districts early Tuesday morning.
In Balasore district, an elderly woman named Pintu Deuri, a resident of Srideipur village, was killed by a herd of elephants at Santaragadia. Deuri had gone out during the night when she encountered the elephants, who fatally trampled her. Her family, alerted by her screams, managed to chase the elephants away and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. The incident has deeply shocked the village.
In a similar incident, Muni Kisan from Telkoi in Keonjhar district was trampled to death by elephants while plucking mahula flowers early in the morning. The elephants remained near her body until villagers managed to scare them off. By the time Kisan's family and other villagers reached her, she had already succumbed to her injuries.
Forest officials were informed and have since sent both bodies for post-mortem examinations.
