Sunstroke claims 41 lives in Odisha; 73 cases under investigation

Bhubaneswar, June 10: According to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the sunstroke death toll in Odisha has reached 41, as reported by Health Director Nilakantha Mishra.
During a media briefing, Odisha Health Director Nilakantha Mishra revealed that a total of 151 alleged sunstroke death cases have been reported to date. Of these, 41 deaths have been confirmed as due to sunstroke, while 73 other alleged cases are still under investigation. Mishra noted that some families declined postmortem examinations and took the bodies of the deceased away.
"Yesterday, 16 people suffering from heat-related illnesses were admitted to various hospitals across the state, and 2,269 individuals who had been treated for heat-related sicknesses were discharged," Mishra stated.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecasted that the heatwave conditions in the state will persist for several more days, with maximum temperatures expected to rise up to 45 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
