IMD predicts severe cyclone's approach to Bengal and Bangladesh coasts

Bhubaneswar, May 24: A cyclonic storm forming in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and approach the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, potentially reaching severe cyclone status, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). IMD forecasts its landfall over the Bangladesh coast around midnight on May 26.
IMD's tweet stated, “WML concentrated to Depression over central Bay of Bengal(BoB) at 0530hrs of 24May. Likely to move northeastwards and intensify further into a cyclone over eastcentral BoB by 25 morning. Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclone by 25evening.”
Continuing its trajectory, the storm is expected to cross Bangladesh and adjacent West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara by May 26 midnight as a severe cyclonic storm.
The well-marked low pressure system is anticipated to progress northeastward, consolidating into a depression over central Bay of Bengal by Friday morning. It is then projected to maintain this trajectory, intensifying into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal by Saturday morning, before moving northwards and reaching the Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts by Sunday evening as a severe cyclonic storm.
While various weather models have forecasted the landfall point, including the global forecast systems of IMD, NCUM & IMD MME, the exact location of landfall for the severe Cyclone ‘Remal’ is yet to be determined, as per IMD reports.
