Simulia MLA Jyotiprakash Panigrahi resigns from BJD

Bhubaneswar, May 22: Simulia MLA Jyotiprakash Panigrahi resigned from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday. Panigrahi sent his resignation letter to the party leader and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal with immediate effect. I thank you, sir, for providing me an opportunity to serve the state, the people of the Simulia-Khaira Assembly constituency, and the party,” Panigrahi wrote in his resignation letter.
In the 2024 elections, the BJD has fielded Subasini Sahu for the Simulia Assembly segment, leaving Panigrahi and his supporters shocked. Following this announcement, Panigrahi began distancing himself from party activities. Feeling dejected, he ultimately decided to sever ties with the party, according to sources.
In a video message, the former minister said, “I am resigning from the ruling party today. I have been associated with the party for a long time. I am grateful to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Simulia.”
