Odisha DGP conducts 'cooperation meeting' ahead of upcoming elections
Bhubaneswar, March 18: In preparation for the forthcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, which were announced last Friday, Odisha's Director General of Police (DGP), Arun Kumar Sarangi, convened a 'cooperation meeting' on Monday.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, DGP Sarangi stated, "We convened a cooperation meeting today, with the attendance of SPs and Range DIGs from bordering areas of Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. Our officers from these areas, along with senior officials from the Intelligence and Operations wings, were also present."
The meeting, held in accordance with the Election Commission of India's directives, aimed to ensure peaceful and impartial polls while making arrangements to curb the trafficking of arms, illegal substances, and cash during the elections.
Particularly, discussions focused on strengthening intelligence sharing and anti-Naxal operations in affected regions, DGP Sarangi elaborated. He highlighted that SPs from Odisha's bordering districts raised and deliberated upon their concerns with counterparts from Jharkhand, Bengal, and Chhattisgarh.
"We explored various avenues for enhancing cooperation across different domains," added the Odisha DGP.
Furthermore, DGP Sarangi disclosed that border checkpoints have been operational in the state since early January, well in advance of the election process. These checkpoints are adequately manned by police forces and staff, adjusted based on vehicular traffic volume, he explained.
