New Delhi, Feb 23: Ravichandran Ashwin etched his name in the annals of Indian cricket history by becoming the first player to secure 100 Test wickets against England. His milestone moment came when he dismissed Bairstow, leg before wicket. Initially given not out, the decision was overturned in India's favor upon review. Ashwin now boasts 100+ wickets against two formidable teams – England and Australia (114).

But that's not all. Ashwin's prowess extends beyond bowling; he has also amassed 1085 Test runs against England, placing him in an elite club. He joins Gary Sobers, Monty Noble, and George Giffen as only the fourth player in history to achieve the double feat of 100 wickets and 1000 runs against England.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to laud Ashwin's remarkable achievement, hailing him as 'one of the greatest spin bowlers in cricket history'.

This feat adds to Ashwin's recent milestone in the previous Test in Rajkot, where he claimed his 500th Test wicket by dismissing Zak Crawley. He joins the exclusive ranks of Anil Kumble as the only other Indian bowler to achieve this remarkable milestone.

As Ashwin approaches his 100th Test match for India, his stellar performance in the ongoing Test against England continues to captivate fans. Despite England's resistance led by Joe Root's century, India managed to secure five wickets in the first session. Root's partnership with Ben Foakes and Ollie Robinson helped England reach 302/7 at stumps on the opening day of the fourth Test.
