Nighttime cold hits six Odisha places, Kirei records 7.7°C

Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: For the second consecutive day, six locations in Odisha experienced temperatures below 10°C on Sunday, accompanied by dense fog in various parts of the state. Kirei in Sundargarh district claimed the title of the coldest place in Odisha, recording a minimum temperature of 7.7°C over the last 24 hours.
Other areas with nighttime temperatures below 10°C included Sundargarh (8.5), G Udayagiri (8.6°C), Rourkela (8.9°C), Koraput (9°C), and Jharsuguda (9.6°C). Meanwhile, Phulbani and Ranital reported a minimum temperature of 10.5°C each.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cuttack and Bhubaneswar experienced minimum temperatures of 17.2°C and 18.5°C, respectively.
Additionally, dense fog enveloped Cuttack, Gopalpur, and Bolangir, while areas like Chandbali, Angul, Bhawanipatna, and Baripada experienced shallow to moderate fog on Monday morning, causing visibility to drop to 50 to 200 meters.
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts light rain in certain areas of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on Wednesday. The forecast indicates continued light showers in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak on Thursday as well.
