Odisha Vigilance cracks down on Traffic Inspector: Rs 24.24 lakh cash seized

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Acting on a tip-off, Odisha Vigilance officials intercepted the vehicle of Jitendra Kumar Behera, a Traffic Inspector stationed in Talcher, Angul district, on Thursday night at Trinath Bazar, Balianta in Bhubaneswar. Behera was en route from Talcher to Astarang when authorities discovered suspected ill-gotten cash amounting to Rs 11,15,470 in his possession. Due to Behera's inability to provide a satisfactory explanation for the cash, it was subsequently seized.
Following the interception, Vigilance officials conducted a search at Behera’s rented residence in Talcher and his house in Astarang, focusing on the disproportionate asset (DA) aspect. The searches yielded additional discoveries, including cash totaling Rs 3,08,750 and 336 grams of gold from the rented house in Talcher, and an additional Rs 10 lakh in cash from his residence in Astarang.
The combined cash seizure now stands at approximately Rs 24.24 lakh. Ongoing investigations include searches at the residence of Krushna Chandra Behera, Jitendra Kumar Behera's brother, situated in Paradip.
The Suspect Officer (SO), Jitendra Behera, is currently under examination to determine the origin of the funds.
