SCB Hospital successfully conducts rare haploidentical transplant

Cuttack, Jan 10: SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack achieved another milestone as its medical team successfully conducted the State's inaugural and uncommon haploidentical transplant at the hospital's Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit.
Post-transplant, both the patient and the stem cell donor are reported to be in stable condition.
The haploidentical transplant, a groundbreaking life-saving procedure, allows for transplantation from donors who are only half-matched.
Sanatan Sahu, the patient's father, shared that his son had been battling blood cancer for the past decade and had been undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College & Hospital. Sahu mentioned that the doctors performed the transplant using stem cells collected from his younger son.
He expressed gratitude for the procedure, emphasizing that it was provided to his son completely free, thanks to the support of the State government.
