Odisha reports two additional active COVID cases, bringing total to five

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: In the past 24 hours, Odisha has identified two new active COVID cases, raising the total number of active patients to five as of Wednesday. Previously, three cases were reported in December, and the conditions of these patients are reportedly stable.
Notably, two of the newly identified patients have no travel history, while the travel background of the remaining three is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the nationwide count of active COVID patients has reached 4,059 on Wednesday. Seven individuals have succumbed to the viral infection in India following the emergence of the new COVID sub-variant JN.1. Among these, three deaths occurred in West Bengal, two in Karnataka, and one each in Gujarat and Goa, as per data provided by the Union Health Ministry.
The Odisha Health Department has issued guidance, urging elderly individuals with comorbidities to wear masks and avoid crowded places as precautionary measures.
