Sudarsan Pattnaik's onion Santa sets a new standard in sand art

Puri, Dec 25: Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has skillfully crafted a monumental sculpture of Santa Claus using two tonnes of onions on Blue Flag Beach. The artwork, unveiled on Christmas Eve, spans an impressive 100 feet in length, 20 feet in height, and 40 feet in width, making it the world's largest onion and sand installation.
Pattnaik, renowned for his annual endeavors on Puri's Blue Flag beach, emphasized the underlying message of the sculpture: "Gift A Plant, Green The Earth." The artist advocates for environmental consciousness and highlighted the pressing need to plant more trees in the face of climate change.
The colossal creation not only showcases artistic prowess but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship. Pattnaik expressed, "In light of the well-known impact of climate change, this message is pertinent to us all. The imperative to plant more trees cannot be overstated." The meticulous sculpting process demanded eight hours of dedicated work.
