Fake cop collecting donations arrested in Koraput

Koraput, Dec 15: The Koraput police on friday apprehended an individual posing as a policeman and soliciting donations door-to-door in the Nuasahi, Mohantysahi, and Telisahi areas of Koraput district, Odisha.
The arrested individual, identified as Bhagwan Nath (41) from Lachmankhedi in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, was dressed in a police uniform while collecting donations. Koraput Town police officer Satyananda Patra stated that the accused was taken into custody under Sections 419/420/171 of the IPC due to suspicions surrounding his activities. He is scheduled to be produced in court tomorrow.
Residents in the targeted areas reportedly handed over money to Bhagwan Nath, assuming he was a genuine policeman seeking donations. However, Sumanta Sahu from Nuasahi grew suspicious and requested the accused to produce his identity card, which he failed to do. Speaking in Hindi, the accused claimed to be Indian. Suspecting foul play, Sahu promptly alerted the Koraput Town police about the incident, and the residents of Nuasahi detained the imposter until the police arrived at the scene.
