Villagers allegedly kill bear responsible for fatal attack

Nabarangpur, Dec 10: The wild bear, suspected of causing a man's death near Bhatarasiuni village in Nabarangpur district, was reportedly fatally assaulted by enraged villagers on Saturday night. Additionally, two forest officials sustained injuries while attempting to prevent the villagers from killing the wild animal.
According to reports, the wild bear attacked and killed a man in Bhatarasiuni village on Saturday evening. In response to the tragic incident, locals attempted to drive the animal away from the area. Despite the animal retreating to a nearby forest, the villagers insisted that forest officials immediately remove the wild bear.
When attempts by the forest officials to drive away the animal were unsuccessful, infuriated locals resorted to pelting stones at the bear. Eventually, they beat the bear to death with sticks.
During efforts by forest officials to prevent the mob from attacking the bear, they, too, faced the anger of the people. Consequently, two officials sustained injuries and have been hospitalized for treatment.
Nabarangpur DFO Subhendu Prasad Behera responded to the incident, assuring that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.
