IT dept seizes Rs 200 crore in raids on Odisha alcohol manufacturing properties

Bhubaneswar, Dec 7: The Income Tax (IT) department seized approximately Rs 200 crore during raids on properties linked to various alcohol manufacturing firms in Odisha conducted on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to sources within the department, the raids took place in several locations, including Bhubaneswar, Balangir, Titilagarh, and Boudh. Over half a dozen firms were targeted, including M/S Shiw Ganga and Company and Boudh Distillery Pvt Ltd, over alleged tax evasion.
The IT department had received information indicating that these companies, through outlets across the state, were selling country liquor without maintaining bills or vouchers. This practice resulted in a substantial amount of cash sales going unaccounted for in the regular books of account of the firms.
Simultaneous raids were also conducted at the residences of two liquor traders in Balangir and Titilagarh, leading to the seizure of a significant amount of cash. The cash recovered from these operations was transported to the State Bank of India's branch in Bolangir and deposited on the night of the raids.
