Odisha Vigilance arrests clerk for demanding bribe, seizes money

Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Odisha Vigilance team on Friday apprehended Laxmi Narayan Nath, a junior clerk employed in the office of the Additional Sub-Collector, Settlement, Balasore. He was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant.
The bribe was sought in exchange for providing a certified copy of the Yadas Sabak record related to the settlement of paternal land registered under the complainant's father's name.
Originally demanding Rs 5,000, Nath was arrested during the act of accepting Rs 4,000. The entire bribe amount was recovered from him and confiscated. Simultaneously, Vigilance personnel conducted searches at three locations associated with the accused in the Balasore district, focusing on potential disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been lodged at the Balasore Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, concerning this incident. Ongoing investigations are underway, and further details are awaited as the case progresses.
