Bay of Bengal braces for cyclone Michaung's potential formation after November 30

Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the existing low pressure over the South Andaman Sea is expected to shift west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 30.
Following this, the system is projected to move northwestwards, further escalating into a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal within the subsequent 48 hours, as per the IMD.
The precise trajectory of the system will be determined once it develops into a depression, explained H R Biswas, the director at the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
Anticipating the influence of this system, squally winds at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are expected over the central Bay of Bengal adjoining the southwest Bay of Bengal from December 1. The intensity is likely to increase to 50 to 60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, on the following day. Due to anticipated rough to very rough sea conditions, fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into deep sea areas of the central Bay of Bengal starting December 1.
