Khordha Municipality to establish five smart vending zones with 266 shops

Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: Khordha Municipality is set to witness the establishment of five smart vending zones, each accommodating 266 shops, following approval from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday.
This initiative, projected to cost around Rs 8.79 crore in its initial phase, is hailed as a long-awaited solution to a problem persisting for over five decades in the town, according to a senior official within the Odisha government.
The construction of these vending zones is aimed at addressing the issue and will involve the removal of all temporary cabins, as confirmed by the official.
The impetus for this development came after vendors raised their concerns during the district visit of 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian to Khordha, coinciding with the launch of the Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha scheme. Pandian assured them of a resolution to their plight, drawing gratitude from the affected shopkeepers.
A letter from the deputy secretary in the Housing and Urban Development department to the executive officer of Khordha municipality has requested a detailed project report for the proposal. This report, subject to technical verification by the inspector of local works, will seek the second stage administrative approval and the release of funds for the project's execution.
