IMD issues yellow warning for thunderstorms in Odisha for two days
Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm activity, lightning and gusty winds in several districts of Odisha over the next two days.
According to the IMD forecast, valid until 8:30 am on October 9, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph are very likely at one or two places in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are also likely at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh during the same period. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts as well.
For the second day, from 8:30 am on October 9 to 8:30 am on October 10, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
The weather department has advised residents in the warned districts to remain alert during thunderstorms and take necessary precautions. People have also been advised to avoid open areas and seek shelter in safe locations during lightning and strong winds.
The IMD will continue to monitor the weather situation and issue further updates as required.
