Woman allegedly kills husband while he was asleep in Kendrapara
Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: A woman allegedly killed her husband while he was asleep in an intoxicated state following a quarrel at Malapatana village under Aali police limits in Kendrapara district, police said.
The deceased was identified as Niranjan Sahu, while his wife, Manorama, has been detained by police in connection with the incident.
According to preliminary investigation, Niranjan returned home late on Wednesday night after consuming alcohol. Police said an argument reportedly took place between the couple before Niranjan went to sleep. Manorama allegedly strangled him by pressing her foot on his neck while he was asleep.
Police said Manorama told investigators that her husband frequently consumed alcohol and allegedly quarrelled with her and their two children after returning home in an intoxicated condition. She reportedly told police that she worked at a hotel cleaning utensils to support the family and claimed she had been facing prolonged domestic harassment.
During questioning, Manorama allegedly claimed that her son and minor daughter had also assisted her in the killing. Police are verifying the allegations and examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The matter came to light on Thursday morning when neighbours reportedly spotted Niranjan’s body lying outside the house and informed Aali police.A police team reached the spot and began an investigation with the assistance of a scientific team, which examined the crime scene and collected evidence.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the alleged motive, sequence of events and involvement of other family members. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
