Southwest monsoon further withdraws from Odisha, complete withdrawal likely soon
Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: The Southwest Monsoon has further withdrawn from parts of Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announcing its latest withdrawal on Thursday.
According to the weather department, the Southwest Monsoon has now withdrawn from the remaining parts of Maharashtra, some parts of Goa, Karnataka, Telangana and Odisha, as well as additional areas of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The IMD said the line of withdrawal currently passes through 27.5°N/86.5°E, Supaul, Ranchi, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bijapur, Hyderabad, Belagavi, Panjim and 15°N/72°E.
With the latest development, the monsoon has officially withdrawn from Sundargarh and Bargarh districts and adjoining areas of western Odisha, indicating a further retreat of the rain-bearing system from the state.
The IMD said meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for the Southwest Monsoon to withdraw from some more parts of eastern India and the Northern Peninsula, as well as several areas of northeast India, during the next three to four days.
The gradual withdrawal marks the transition towards the post-monsoon season in Odisha. With the prevailing atmospheric conditions supporting further retreat, the monsoon is expected to withdraw completely from the state in the coming days.
The end of the Southwest Monsoon will mark the conclusion of Odisha’s four-month-long rainy season and the beginning of more stable post-monsoon weather conditions across the state.
