Odisha Vigilance arrests executive engineer in disproportionate assets case
Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: The Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Arabinda Mohanty, Executive Engineer of the R&B Sub-Division, Betnoti, under the R&B Division, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
Mohanty is scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Vigilance Judge, Baripada, on Tuesday.
According to Vigilance officials, searches conducted at properties linked to the officer led to the detection of assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The assets reportedly include two multi-storeyed buildings, a five-acre farmhouse, 23 high-value plots, around 300 grams of gold, cash of approximately ₹10.57 lakh, bank deposits worth ₹69.69 lakh and a four-wheeler.
Of the cash recovered, ₹2.5 lakh was seized from his residence at Balianta in Bhubaneswar during Tuesday’s search. Officials said Mohanty could not satisfactorily explain the sources of the assets detected during the investigation.
The Vigilance also alleged that documents relating to 20 plots had been concealed at the residence of a contractor in Balasore. During a search conducted on Monday, the documents were recovered, including some land records that had allegedly been buried underground.
Further, a locker reportedly held in the name of the same contractor was searched, from which Vigilance officials recovered ₹2.77 lakh in cash and gold allegedly belonging to Mohanty. The items have been seized for further investigation.
A case has been registered at Balasore Vigilance Police Station under Baleshwar Vigilance PS Case No. 25/2026 and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.
The investigation into the alleged disproportionate assets and the source of the properties and valuables is continuing.
