No new liquor shops in Odisha for three years under new excise policy: CM
Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that no new liquor shops will be opened in the state for the next three years under the new excise policy.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while attending the public awareness programme ‘Jiban Jindabad-2.0’, organised by the Commissionerate Police at the local Railway Auditorium. During the event, Majhi also inaugurated a dedicated website of the Commissionerate Police linked to the ‘Nisha Mukta Bharat’ (Drug-Free India) campaign.
Calling for concerted efforts to eradicate drug addiction, the Chief Minister said substance abuse has consequences not only for individuals but also for their families and society. He reiterated that the state government is following a strict zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics and emphasised the need for greater awareness, particularly among young people.
Majhi described human life as a precious gift and urged people to face challenges and setbacks with courage. He said the ‘Jiban Jindabad’ campaign, launched last year, had made significant contributions towards reducing suicidal tendencies.
The second edition, ‘Jiban Jindabad-2.0’, seeks to broaden the awareness campaign by encouraging young people to stay away from drugs and channel their energy into education, sports and creative activities.
Renowned artists presented awareness-based performances, including the plays ‘Jiban Jindabad’, ‘Nisha Mukta Yuba Samaj Bikashita Bharat’ and ‘Bhuta Manishara Nishaku Na’. The Chief Minister appreciated the performances and urged people to draw the message of valuing and protecting life from the campaign.
