IMD issues four-day thunderstorm warning for Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day weather warning for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds across several districts till October 9.
According to the latest forecast, thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph is likely at one or two places in many districts during the period.
For the next 24 hours, valid until 8.30 am on October 6, the weather warning covers 20 districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir and Kandhamal.
On October 6, thunderstorm activity is expected mainly over northern and southern interior Odisha, covering Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The IMD has forecast widespread thunderstorm activity on October 7 and 8, with several coastal and interior districts likely to be affected.
The weather office has advised people to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, particularly avoiding open areas and taking shelter in safe structures.
