21-year-old youth injured after jumping from water tank at SCB Medical College
Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: A 21-year-old youth reportedly attempted suicide by jumping from a water tank on the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday, triggering concern among patients, attendants and hospital staff.
The youth, identified as Rajesh Parida, had reportedly visited the hospital’s psychiatry department for a check-up. According to reports, he suddenly climbed onto a nearly 50-foot-high water tank located within the hospital campus.
Hospital staff and other people present at the spot reportedly made prolonged efforts to persuade him to come down safely. However, despite their attempts, he remained on top of the tank and eventually jumped from the height.
Following the incident, hospital personnel immediately rushed him to the trauma casualty for emergency treatment. He sustained serious injuries in the fall and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Hospital sources said his condition remains critical and that he is being closely monitored by doctors. The incident caused tension on the hospital premises, with people gathering at the spot following the youth’s climb onto the water tank.
Authorities are expected to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident. Further details regarding the youth’s condition and the sequence of events are awaited.
The incident also highlights the importance of timely mental-health support and intervention for people experiencing severe emotional or psychological distress.
