Odia film producer Sanjay Nayak granted bail in journalist assault case

Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: Odia film producer Sanjay Nayak, commonly known as Tutu, was granted conditional bail on Wednesday by the SDJM Court in Bhubaneswar in a case involving the alleged assault of a woman journalist.
Nayak had been arrested and charged with various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 341, 323, 294, and 354, following a complaint filed by a woman journalist with the Kharavel Nagar police, accusing him of harassment and misconduct.
The incident took place during a premiere event for an Odia film at a cinema hall, attended by several members of the media who were there to cover the event. Debasmita Rout, a journalist working for a prominent local television channel, alleged that Nayak had verbally abused her and subsequently slapped her in the presence of other media professionals.
In response to these allegations, Nayak stated, "The accusation is untrue. I was in a hurry to reach the Maharaja Film Hall. She was blocking the entrance, so I gently tapped her on the back, requesting her to step aside. She's like a younger sister to me. I did not intend to harm her. If my actions inadvertently caused her any distress, I apologize for that."
