Bhubaneswar, Sep 3: Balangir Police have busted an alleged interstate ganja smuggling racket that was reportedly using e-commerce parcels as a cover to transport the contraband to other states.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted raids at several locations and exposed the network. One accused involved in the racket has been arrested and forwarded to court, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members allegedly linked to the operation.

According to police, the accused packed ganja tightly inside e-commerce delivery boxes and sealed the parcels with tapes to evade suspicion during transportation and checking. The parcels were allegedly presented as regular online orders before being dispatched outside Odisha.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused allegedly procured ganja at relatively low prices from local areas and sold it at significantly higher prices in other states, using the e-commerce delivery system to facilitate the illegal trade.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are investigating whether any delivery agent or employee of an e-commerce company had knowledge of or involvement in the racket.

Investigators are also examining call detail records, bank transactions and other financial links to trace the wider network and identify additional persons involved. Further investigation is underway.
