Woman critically injured after allegedly being set ablaze by husband in Puri
Bhubaneswar, Sep 3: A 30-year-old woman was critically injured after allegedly being set on fire by her husband following a family dispute at Alamchandi area under Kumbharpada police station limits in Puri district on Thursday.
Police received information about the incident at around 7:50 pm and immediately reached the spot. The injured woman, identified as Sarojini Mallick, was rescued and rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Following preliminary treatment, doctors referred her to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care.
According to preliminary police investigation, Sarojini was allegedly set on fire by her husband, Bikram Kumar Mallick (37), following a dispute within the family. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be established.
Acting on the allegations, Kumbharpada police detained Bikram and initiated an investigation into the incident. Police officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and questioning those connected with the case.
A case has been registered at Kumbharpada police station vide Case No. 453/2026. Police said all possible angles are being investigated to ascertain the sequence of events and establish the circumstances behind the incident.
Further investigation is underway, while the victim continues to receive treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
