Bhubaneswar, Sep 3: The digital donation initiative e-Hundi ‘Samarpan’ at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri has received donations worth Rs 56.70 lakh within 45 days of its launch, reflecting growing acceptance of digital modes of offering among devotees.

The e-Hundi was launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on July 15, ahead of this year’s Rath Yatra. Shree Jagannath Temple Administration Chief Administrator Dr Arabinda Padhee said the facility enables devotees from anywhere in the world to make offerings to Lord Jagannath and the Shree Mandir. Donors can also download receipts for their contributions.

Meanwhile, the temple’s fixed deposits have crossed Rs 1,811 crore. According to the temple administration, its income comes primarily from devotees’ donations, interest earned on fixed deposits, land transactions and government grants.

Till the end of August, Rs 1,811.09 crore was kept in fixed deposits under the Corpus, Foundation and Temple Funds. Of this, Rs 1,311.09 crore is deposited in nationalised banks, while Rs 500 crore, provided as Corpus Fund by the Odisha Government, is kept in the temple’s PL account. Besides, Rs 100.70 crore is available in the temple’s Savings, Current and Flexi accounts.

The traditional hundi collected Rs 1.43 crore last month, with the highest single-day collection of Rs 6.73 lakh recorded on August 24.
