Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly cheating several youths by promising them jobs at NALCO, Damanjodi, and the Tikri plant in Rayagada district.

The accused has been identified as Subash Muduli, a resident of Kotrambo village under Dasmanthpur police limits.

According to police, Sunduru Sirika, 30, of Sirika Colony in Koraput, lodged a complaint at Koraput Town Police Station on Tuesday, alleging that Muduli posed as a NALCO employee and lured job seekers with employment promises.

Police said Muduli allegedly collected Rs 14,000 from Sunduru Sirika, Rs 8,000 from Landu Sirika, Rs 10,000 from Jagannath Santa, Rs 5,000 from Udaya Santa, Rs 3,000 from Rajendra Mahanandia and Rs 66,000 from Pitar Santa. However, he allegedly failed to provide jobs and later stopped responding to their calls.

During the investigation, police found that Muduli had worked as a security guard at Vikash Vidyalaya in 2021. Since then, he allegedly began cheating job seekers by making false employment promises. Police said Muduli had allegedly duped more than 60 people of over Rs 10 lakh.

A case has been registered at Koraput Town Police Station under relevant sections of the BNS. Police seized a mobile phone and ATM card from his possession. Muduli was arrested and forwarded to court.
