Bhubaneswar, Sept 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorm activity in several districts of Odisha over the next five days, urging people to remain alert and take necessary precautions during lightning and gusty winds.

For September 3, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are very likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

The weather office has forecast similar conditions from September 4 to September 7, with the same districts remaining under the Yellow Warning. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may occur at isolated places during this period.

The IMD has advised residents in the warned districts to closely monitor weather updates and exercise caution whenever thunderstorms or lightning occur. People are advised to avoid open areas, isolated trees, water bodies and other exposed locations during lightning activity.

Authorities have also been urged to remain prepared for possible weather-related incidents, particularly in areas vulnerable to strong winds and lightning.

The latest forecast comes amid unsettled weather conditions across parts of Odisha, with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms expected to continue in several areas during the coming days.
