Second leopard sighting in Odisha's Nuapada sets locals on alert

Nuapada, Nov 5: After capturing a leopard in Odisha's Nuapada, reports emerged of another leopard sighting in the same area on Sunday. The newly spotted leopard was observed near Kodapali village within Dharambandha police jurisdiction of the district in the morning.
Upon receiving information from local residents, officials from the Forest department promptly visited the scene to assess the situation. Notably, the Forest department had successfully captured a leopard the previous night, which was believed to have been responsible for two fatalities and another person's injuries in the area.
The dangerous leopard had been spotted near a village building on Saturday night, and a specialized five-member Forest department team managed to capture the animal using a cage, according to sources.
The captured leopard was subsequently relocated to the Nuapada Sadar Forest Range office. There are plans to transfer the animal to the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Bhubaneswar, as reported.
It's worth noting that a tragic incident occurred on October 31 when a seven-year-old boy fell victim to a leopard attack in Godhasapara village. Similarly, the leopard claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman near Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Nuapada at Siliari Bahara village on Friday.
