Newly built shed collapses at Rourkela Railway Station, two vehicles damaged
Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: A recently constructed shed at Rourkela Railway Station collapsed suddenly on Monday morning, damaging a car and a tempo parked underneath the structure. The incident occurred around 9 am near the main entrance of the railway station, triggering panic among passengers and people present at the spot.
According to reports, the shed had been constructed only a few months ago at an estimated cost of around Rs 1 crore. The structure was intended to provide shelter from the sun and rain to passengers and commuters using vehicles near the station entrance.
The sudden collapse sent people scrambling to safety as portions of the structure came crashing down. Fortunately, no passengers or members of the public were reported injured in the incident. However, the falling debris landed on a parked car and a tempo, causing damage to both vehicles.
The incident has raised concerns over the quality of construction and structural safety of the newly built facility. Questions are also likely to be raised regarding the construction and inspection standards followed before the shed was put into use.
Authorities are expected to assess the damage and examine the cause of the collapse. Further details are awaited.
