Man allegedly bites cobra after stepping on snake in Jharsuguda
Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly caught and bit a cobra after accidentally stepping on the snake at Karmapada village under Laikera police station in Jharsuguda district on Sunday night.
The man, identified as Dharam Singh Khadia, was later rushed to the Govindpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in neighbouring Sambalpur district for medical treatment. Doctors said his condition was stable and advised him to remain under observation for 24 hours.
According to Khadia, he was walking towards a nearby field when he accidentally stepped on a cobra lying on the road. Startled by the movement, the snake raised its head, following which Khadia allegedly caught hold of it and bit the reptile before throwing it away.
Khadia said he had previously been told that holding and biting a snake would prevent its venom from spreading. However, he claimed that the cobra did not bite him during the incident.
Afterwards, Khadia became frightened and informed his family members, who immediately took him to the health centre. Doctors provided preliminary treatment and kept him under observation as a precautionary measure.
The unusual incident soon spread across the village, leaving local residents shocked. Several villagers reportedly gathered at the spot after learning about the incident, while the incident also sparked discussions about the dangers of handling snakes.
