Odisha braces for widespread rain, thunderstorms; orange alert from August 13
Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Odisha from August 11 to 17, with weather conditions expected to intensify from August 13. Yellow warnings have been issued for several districts, while parts of western Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall under an Orange alert.
For August 11, a Yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall at one or two places in 21 districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely in several districts. The Yellow warning will continue on August 12, with heavy rain forecast in 22 districts and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds likely across all 30 districts.
From August 13, weather conditions are expected to worsen. An Orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Kataka, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul and Dhenkanal. A Yellow warning remains in place for 18 other districts, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely across the state.
