Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Police have detained two suspects for questioning in connection with the murder of senior BJP leader Fakir Rana in Odisha's Kalahandi district, while a manhunt has been launched to trace two other accused who remain absconding.

According to police and local reports, Rana, the husband of Dam Karlakhunta Sarpanch Snigdha Rana, was allegedly stabbed to death by unidentified assailants near the panchayat office under the Madanpur Rampur police limits on Wednesday evening. The attack reportedly took place at around 8 pm when the miscreants assaulted him with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.

Hearing his cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the critically injured BJP leader to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, Sarpanch Snigdha Rana lodged a formal complaint with the police, directly accusing four persons from Karlakhunta village of involvement in the murder. Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and detained two of the named suspects for sustained questioning.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic and other evidence are being collected to establish the sequence of events. Police teams are conducting raids at multiple locations to apprehend the remaining two accused. Officials said the motive behind the killing is being investigated and assured that strict legal action will be taken against all those found involved in the case.
