Four students injured after dilapidated school gate collapses in Koraput

Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Four students sustained injuries after the main entrance gate of Kaladi Upper Primary School under Nandapur block in Odisha's Koraput district collapsed on Thursday morning while children were entering the campus.

According to parents Neel Khil and Purna Khil, their children had reached the school as usual when the old iron gate, along with a portion of the adjoining cement wall, suddenly gave way. The structure, reportedly in a dilapidated condition, crashed onto the students, triggering panic among teachers and classmates.

Two Class III students, Kamesha Khil and Deepak Majhi, suffered injuries in the incident. Two other children from the Bala Vatika section were also hurt when the debris fell on them.

Villagers, teachers, and school authorities rushed to the spot and immediately rescued the injured children. They were taken to the Nandapur Community Health Centre (CHC), where they received primary treatment. Doctors later confirmed that all four students were in stable condition and out of danger.

Following the incident, school authorities informed the Nandapur Block Education Officer (BEO) and the Block Development Officer (BDO) about the collapse. The mishap has raised fresh concerns over the safety of ageing school infrastructure, prompting local residents to demand an immediate structural audit and repair of vulnerable government school buildings across the district.
