Bhubaneswar, Aug. 3: The Odisha Health Department has reported 96 snakebite cases from flood-affected districts during the recent floods, with officials confirming that no deaths have occurred due to snakebite incidents. The announcement was made by Joint Director of Public Health Dr. Basanta Pradhan, who said the department's preparedness and timely medical intervention helped prevent fatalities.

Dr. Pradhan said that although floodwaters have largely receded, health concerns continue to persist in Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Puri and Cuttack districts. To address post-flood health risks, the department has established control rooms and temporary medical treatment camps in all the affected districts.

He said the Health Department, in coordination with the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), has ensured adequate stocks of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) and other essential medicines to tackle medical emergencies arising from the floods.

Besides snakebite incidents, the department has also recorded 195 diarrhoea cases, with patients receiving prompt treatment to prevent dehydration and other complications. According to officials, medical teams have so far provided healthcare services to 21,334 people in the affected regions.

Special attention has also been given to maternal healthcare during the flood crisis. A total of 481 pregnant women were shifted to safer locations, resulting in 332 successful deliveries. The Health Department confirmed that no maternal or newborn deaths have been reported, highlighting the effectiveness of the state's emergency healthcare response during the floods.
