Bhubaneswar, July 27: A coal-laden goods train suffered a minor derailment between Sikir and Titlagarh railway stations in the Sambalpur Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Monday. Railway authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported, and passenger train operations remained unaffected despite the incident.

According to East Coast Railway, the derailment occurred at around 11:23 am when the rear trolley wheel of the 14th loaded wagon from the locomotive slipped off the tracks. The train, carrying coal, was passing through the section when the technical snag was noticed.

Immediately after the incident, railway officials rushed to the site to assess the situation and initiate restoration work. An Accident Relief Train (ART) was dispatched from Kantabanji to assist in track restoration and ensure the safe re-railing of the affected wagon.

Railway engineers and technical teams have launched restoration work on a war footing to clear the affected section and restore normal freight movement at the earliest. Officials are also examining the cause of the derailment to determine whether it resulted from a mechanical defect, track condition, or any other operational issue.

East Coast Railway reiterated that passenger train services on the route have not been disrupted and are operating as per schedule. The railway administration has assured that all necessary safety measures are being followed during the restoration process and that the situation is being closely monitored until normal operations are fully restored.
