Bhubaneswar, July 21: Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday announced that the Odisha government will provide immediate compensation to people whose houses or agricultural land have been damaged due to the recent spell of incessant rainfall across the state.

Speaking to mediapersons, the Minister said the government is committed to extending financial assistance without delay. He clarified that compensation would be provided even if only one house or a single agricultural plot in a block has been affected by the heavy rain.

Pujari said several districts have experienced widespread rainfall over the past week, with Balangir, Cuttack and several coastal districts witnessing significant damage to agricultural land. As a precautionary measure, residents from vulnerable and flood-prone areas have been shifted to shelter homes, where food and other essential facilities are being provided.

The Minister informed that district Collectors in all rain-affected areas have been directed to conduct detailed damage assessments and submit reports to the state government. Based on these reports, the government will review the extent of the losses and release compensation at the earliest.

He added that reports have already been received from Bargarh, Balangir and Cuttack districts. Collectors have also been instructed to prepare lists of affected beneficiaries along with their bank account details to facilitate the direct transfer of compensation under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Pujari further clarified that farmers whose crops have been damaged at the initial stage of cultivation due to heavy rainfall will also be eligible for compensation. He assured that the state government would take all necessary steps to support affected families and help them recover from the losses caused by the adverse weather.
