Man succumbs to injuries after brutal attack in Bhubaneswar; one arrested, main accused absconding
Bhubaneswar, July 21: A man who was brutally attacked with sharp weapons in Bhubaneswar last week succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, turning the assault case into a murder investigation. Police suspect that the attack was the result of previous enmity.
The deceased has been identified as Banamali Bhol, a resident of Jharana Slum under the jurisdiction of Mancheswar Police Station in the state capital.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 15, when a group of armed miscreants allegedly attacked Banamali near his residence with sharp weapons. He sustained critical injuries in the assault and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite efforts by doctors to save him, Banamali succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Mancheswar Police launched an investigation and arrested one of the accused, identified as Aditya Lenka. However, the prime suspect, Sushil Swain, remains absconding.
Police have formed teams and launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the remaining accused involved in the crime. Officials said raids are being conducted at multiple locations based on intelligence inputs.
Investigators suspect that the attack was motivated by an old rivalry, though the exact reason behind the murder is yet to be established. Police are examining all possible angles, including the involvement of additional persons in the assault.
A detailed investigation is underway, and a scientific team may be pressed into service to collect forensic evidence if required. Police have assured that all those involved in the murder will be brought to justice.
