Fake Additional SP arrested for allegedly cheating and threatening people in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, July 10: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly impersonating an Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) and cheating several people in Bhubaneswar by misusing a fake identity.
The accused has been identified as Rajnikanta Mohanty, who allegedly posed as a senior police officer to intimidate people and gain their trust.
According to police, the case came to light after Mohanty allegedly damaged the vehicle of a resident of the Unit-III area and threatened him while claiming to be an Additional SP. The victim subsequently lodged a complaint at the Kharvel Nagar Police Station, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
During the probe, investigators tracked down and arrested the accused. Preliminary findings revealed that Mohanty had allegedly duped and intimidated several individuals across the city by falsely projecting himself as a high-ranking police officer.
Police also recovered a fake identity card that the accused allegedly used to establish his false credentials and convince people that he was serving in the police department. Officials suspect he may have used the forged identity in multiple incidents to threaten or deceive unsuspecting victims.
The Commissionerate Police are now examining whether more people have fallen victim to the accused's fraudulent activities and are verifying his possible involvement in other criminal cases.
Police have urged citizens to immediately report anyone claiming to be a government official under suspicious circumstances and to verify such identities through official channels. Further investigation into the case is underway.
