Bomb threat email triggers security scare at Khordha District Court Complex
Bhubaneswar, July 8: Panic gripped the Khordha District Judicial Court Complex in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday after an anonymous email threatened a bomb attack, prompting authorities to evacuate the premises and launch a large-scale security operation.
Soon after the threat was received, police rushed to the court complex along with a bomb disposal squad and a dog squad. Security personnel conducted a thorough search of the entire premises to ensure the safety of lawyers, court staff, litigants and visitors.
During the operation, officials used metal detectors to inspect sensitive locations, including Lift No. 1 near the electrical panel board and the passage leading to the underground section of the court building. Every part of the complex was carefully examined as the search continued for several hours.
Despite the intensive inspection, no explosive or suspicious object was found. Authorities later confirmed that the threat appeared to be a hoax, though investigations are continuing.
An advocate present at the court said this was the fourth such bomb threat email received by the court in recent times. He expressed concern that while repeated threats have caused disruption and panic, the sender and the source of the emails are yet to be identified.
Following the incident, personnel from Badagada Police Station initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the anonymous email. Police also reviewed the court's security arrangements and are examining digital evidence to identify those responsible. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in issuing the false bomb threat.
