IMD issues five-day yellow warning for thunderstorms across parts of Odisha
Bhubaneswar, July 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five-day Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. The weather office has urged people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimise the impact of adverse weather conditions.
According to the IMD forecast, Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds at isolated places on July 9.
The warning will expand on July 10, when Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj are expected to witness similar weather conditions. On July 11, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Boudh districts.
The weather activity is expected to persist on July 12 and 13, with Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj remaining under the Yellow Warning.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected districts to stay updated with official weather bulletins, especially during the afternoon and evening when thunderstorm activity is generally more intense. Farmers, travellers and people working outdoors have been asked to take adequate precautions, as strong winds may damage standing crops, weak structures and unsecured objects.
The weather office has also cautioned people against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and urged them to move to safe locations immediately if lightning or strong winds develop.
