CM Majhi mourns demise of eminent Odia litterateur Jagannath Prasad Das
Bhubaneswar, June 4: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of renowned Odia litterateur and former IAS officer Dr. Jagannath Prasad Das, describing his passing as an irreparable loss to Odisha’s literary and cultural landscape.
In a condolence message posted on his official social media handle, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the veteran writer, recalling his remarkable contributions to both public service and literature. Majhi said Dr. Das was not only an eminent writer of exceptional talent but also a highly accomplished Indian Administrative Service officer who served the people with dedication in several key positions under the Odisha Government and the Government of India.
“Dr. Jagannath Prasad Das left an indelible mark in every branch of literature through his creativity and intellectual brilliance. His contributions will continue to inspire generations,” the Chief Minister stated.
Dr. Das passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday night at the age of 90. His death has been widely mourned by writers, artists, intellectuals, public figures and admirers across the state and beyond.
A multifaceted personality, Dr. Das earned acclaim as a poet, playwright, novelist, painter and art historian. His vast body of work significantly enriched Odia literature and culture, earning him widespread recognition and respect.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences, Chief Minister Majhi conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. The literary fraternity has described his demise as the end of an era in Odisha’s cultural and intellectual history.
