Fire breaks out at oil factory in Sonepur district, firefighters battle blaze
Bhubaneswar, June 4: A major fire broke out at Shree Jagadamba Oil Factory in Sahanidiha village under Ulunda police station limits in Odisha’s Sonepur district early on Thursday morning, triggering panic among workers and local residents.
According to reports, the blaze erupted suddenly inside the factory premises during the early hours of the day. Employees present at the unit noticed flames and smoke billowing from a section of the factory and immediately alerted the fire services.
Upon receiving information, personnel from the Binka Fire Station rushed to the spot with fire tenders and launched an extensive firefighting operation. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the factory and nearby structures.
Officials said the fire had not been fully brought under control till the last reports were received. Dense smoke and the presence of combustible materials inside the oil processing unit reportedly made firefighting operations challenging.
Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire. A detailed investigation is expected to be carried out once the flames are completely extinguished. Fire officials are also assessing whether the blaze originated due to an electrical short circuit, mechanical failure, or any other reason.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. However, the extent of damage to machinery, raw materials, and other assets is yet to be assessed.
Fire brigade personnel continue to remain at the site as efforts are underway to fully douse the flames and ensure the area is safe from any possibility of reignition.
