Odisha revises bus fares following rise in diesel prices
Bhubaneswar, June 2: The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has announced a revision in passenger bus fares across the state following a substantial increase in diesel prices. The revised fare structure came into effect immediately after the issuance of the official order by the Office of the Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairman.
According to the revised rates, passengers travelling in ordinary buses will now pay 92 paise per kilometre, up from the existing 90 paise. Fares for express buses have been increased from 94 paise to 96 paise per kilometre. Deluxe bus fares have been revised from 131 paise to 135 paise per kilometre, while AC Deluxe services will now charge 163 paise per kilometre instead of 159 paise.
Similarly, fares for Super Deluxe buses have been raised from 247 paise to 253 paise per kilometre.
The fare hike comes in response to a sharp rise in diesel prices. Officials stated that the per-litre cost of diesel increased from ₹95.87 to ₹100.68 as of May 31, 2026, reflecting a cumulative rise of ₹4.81 per litre, including carryover effects. The revision aims to offset the growing operational costs faced by bus operators due to higher fuel expenses.
The revised fares will apply to all stage carriage buses operating within Odisha, except town bus services. The State Transport Authority clarified that while fare rates have been updated, all other provisions and conditions mentioned in earlier Transport Department notifications will remain unchanged.
Transport officials said the adjustment was necessary to ensure the continued viability of public transport services while addressing the impact of rising fuel prices on operators.
