Man killed in suspected tiger attack in Mayurbhanj forest
Bhubaneswar, June 1: A man was reportedly killed in a suspected tiger attack in a forest area near Kumudabadi village under the Dudhiani Range of the Karanjia Forest Division in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, triggering fear among local residents.
The deceased has been identified as Sadhu Nayak, a resident of Basantpur village under the jurisdiction of Jashipur Police Station.
According to reports, Nayak had ventured into the nearby forest on Sunday morning to collect leaves for feeding his goats. When he failed to return home by evening, his family members and villagers grew concerned and began searching for him.
The grim discovery was made on Monday morning when local residents found two severed, blood-stained legs and a lungi believed to belong to Nayak lying inside the forest. The remains were scattered in the jungle, indicating a possible attack by a wild animal.
Preliminary findings suggest that a tiger may have attacked Nayak while he was inside the forest. Officials suspect the big cat dragged him away, devoured a portion of the body, and left behind the remains.
Upon receiving information, personnel from Jashipur Police Station and officials of the Forest Department rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The area has been cordoned off, and efforts are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
The Forest Department has initiated a detailed inquiry and is monitoring tiger movement in the area. The incident has created panic among villagers, who frequently depend on the forest for their livelihood and daily needs.
