Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the severe cyclonic storm 'Hamoon,' originally positioned over the Northeast Bay of Bengal, has now diminished to a cyclonic storm and made landfall on the southern part of the Chittagong coast in Bangladesh during the early hours of Wednesday.

This cyclonic event reached the Bangladesh coast between 1:30 am and 2:30 am today, maintaining a cyclonic storm status with wind speeds ranging from 75-85 kmph, gusting up to 95 kmph.

As indicated by the Meteorological Department, at 0230 hours IST on October 25, 'Hamoon' was centered along the coastal region of Bangladesh, specifically at approximately 22.0°N latitude and 92.0°E longitude. This placed it roughly 180 kilometers to the east of Khepupara and 40 kilometers south-southeast of Chittagong in Bangladesh.

The cyclone is expected to continue its trajectory in a northeastward direction and gradually weaken into a deep depression within the next six hours, with further degradation into a depression in the subsequent six hours.

Fortunately, Odisha is not anticipated to witness any significant impact from the cyclonic storm. Nevertheless, a few northern coastal areas of the state may experience light to moderate rainfall today.
