Six killed as speeding bus hits auto-rickshaw in Ganjam
Bhubaneswar, May 22: In a devastating road accident, at least six people were killed on the spot after a speeding bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw and dragged it for nearly 100 metres at Ladkapalli Square under Purusottampur Police Station limits in Ganjam on Friday.
According to preliminary reports, the bus was travelling at a high speed when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the auto-rickshaw carrying passengers. The impact was extremely severe, and the bus reportedly dragged the mangled auto for a considerable distance before fleeing from the accident spot.
Sources said the auto-rickshaw was carrying 10 members of a family who were on their way to offer prayers at the revered Maa Singhasini Temple when the tragic mishap occurred.
After receiving information, police personnel and emergency ambulance services rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured passengers were initially shifted to Kodala Hospital for treatment.
However, as the condition of four injured persons worsened, they were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.
Police have started an investigation into the incident and efforts are underway to trace the absconding bus driver.
