Newly-married man dies by suicide in Angul after alleged online gaming losses
Bhubaneswar, May 21: In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old newly-married man allegedly died by suicide after reportedly suffering heavy financial losses due to online gaming addiction in Odisha’s Angul district.
The deceased was identified as Manas Behera of Machhakuta area under the jurisdiction of Chhendipada Police Station.
According to sources, Manas had become deeply addicted to online gaming and had allegedly lost a substantial amount of money over the past few months. Family members said the financial stress and addiction had led to frequent arguments at home. Despite getting married only 15 days ago, he was reportedly unable to overcome the crisis caused by his gaming habits.
On Tuesday afternoon, Manas left his house and did not return. After an overnight search, locals discovered his body hanging from a tree inside a cashew orchard near Machhakuta field early on Wednesday morning.
On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body. It was later sent for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family members.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident.
